Some of the last essays Simone Weil wrote are thoughtfully presented in this collection. Historically poignant, politically biting, controversial; Weil saved the best for last. This long unavailable work discloses her criticism of social-democrats for paying too much attention to Marx and too little to Machiavelli.

She died in August, 1943 at the age of 34. She resisted the rise of totalitarianism by means of her pen.
