The Civil War: Strange & Fascinating Facts by Burke Davis || Author of Gray Fox || American Civil War-Fascinating Facts & Curious History

The author provides fresh insight into the minds of, among others, Robert E. Lee, who liked to have his feet tickled when he read aloud to his children, and into the curious world of Stonewall Jackson, who was comfortable only when in a bolt upright position, when his organs held naturally on atop another.

Burke Davis (1913–2006)
A native of North Carolina, he lived for about thirty years in Virginia, and many of his histories and biographies tackled Virginia subjects, such as Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson, George Washington, and Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller.

Burke Davis was a journalist, novelist, and nonfiction writer, best known for popular war histories. He was awarded the Mayflower Cup in 1959 for his history To Appomattox: Nine April Days, 1865, and the North Carolina Award for Literature in 1973.
