The Bozeman Trail: Highway of History by Robert A. Murray
Newcomers seldom find sources that capture the colorful events of the early days alone the western trail system in a readable form within a single volume. It is the aim of this writer to provide such a book about the Bozeman Trail, winding some four hundred fifty miles from jump-off points on the North Platte River to the early settlements of south central Montana.
Here, in just 90 years, traders, trappers, explorers, soldiers, Indian warriors, farmers, stockmen, and prospectors passed along its course in almost constant procession, until railways and graded roads bypassed much of the trail, leaving grassed-over ruts and scattered historic sites to mark its route.
We hope that tourists, students and armchair history buffs will find it useful, and the key to many an adventure of their own.
