Frequently Asked Questions About Countdown to Lockdown:
-
Q: Was this book written with a ghostwriter or a computer keyboard?
A: Neither. True to his legendary status as one of the few sports figures who completely scripts his own bestsellers, Mick Foley hand-wrote this entire memoir using pen and notebook paper. It captures his unvarnished, authentic, stream-of-consciousness conversational voice completely from scratch. -
Q: What specific wrestling era and career transition does the book chronicle?
A: The book acts as a chronological countdown diary over five weeks leading up to Foley's high-stakes TNA steel-cage match against "The Icon" Sting. It documents his bittersweet final days with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), his experimental stint as a color commentator, and his subsequent career rebirth with Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling. -
Q: Does the book touch upon serious real-world issues within the professional wrestling industry?
A: Yes. Foley takes a highly critical and deeply transparent approach toward industry dangers. He shares raw, unprompted insights regarding the heavy physical toll of his hardcore style, his direct thoughts on performance-enhancing substances, and the devastating, systemic pattern of young wrestlers dying well before their time. -
Q: How prominently does his relationship with WWE management feature in the story?
A: The narrative reveals the intense behind-the-scenes dynamics of sports entertainment. It features previously untold stories highlighting his highly complex, creative, and often tumultuous professional relationship with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon during his exit from the company. -
Q: Are there aspects of Foley's life outside the wrestling ring discussed in the text?
A: Yes. Moving well past the arena ropes, the diary documents his massive humanitarian footprint and charity work.
