Ameera Khan was raised in the suburbs of Illinois, the youngest of three, daughter to Pakistani immigrants. She was always curious and passionate about life and its big and small things. She was consistently interested in the "why".

This was prevalent in her many interests, from literature, psychology, music and poetry, amongst others. She very intentionally carried this thread to a master's degree in Clinical Psychology after college at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. More specifically, she was interested in self-growth for herself and others which she had planned to satisfy as a child psychologist.

Ameera's poetic work highlights a specific period in her life and follows the trajectory of a person experiencing incredible trauma, grief, acceptance, and growth. Her determination reflects in every piece, as Ameera exercises her agency and shows that cancer will never define her and her existence. Countless people were touched by Ameera's perseverance as she doggedly pushed forward with her goal to publish her work someday.

Ameera never wanted her identity to be conflated with "the girl with cancer". Her greatest desire was to live a life as full as possible-as a daughter, sister, aunt, partner, friend, and therapist.

Her emotional generosity continues to compel those who interacted with her to be grateful for life.
