by Lynne Reid Banks

Plot Overview
It all starts with a birthday present Omri doesn't even want: a small plastic Indian warrior figure of no use to him at all. Trying to hide his disappointment, Omri puts his present in an old metal cupboard and locks the door with a mysterious skeleton key that once belonged to his great-grandmother.
Little does Omri know that by turning the key, he will transform his ordinary plastic toy into a real, live man from an altogether different time and place! Omri's Indian—a tiny warrior called Little Bear—becomes his most important secret: precious, dangerous, wonderful, and above all, magical.
Omri and Little Bear could hardly be more different, yet soon the two forge a very special friendship. Omri must grapple with the immense responsibility of keeping his new friend safe and secret. Will he be able to keep Little Bear without anyone finding out and taking his tiny, real friend away?
