Extended Synopsis
Born on October 22, 1964, in Šibenik, Croatia, Dražen Petrović was a natural talent who learned the game from his older brother, Aleksandar. By the age of fifteen, he had already begun his professional career playing for the national team, embarking on an incredible rise through the European circuit. A prodigiously skilled shooter, Dražen routinely scored 40, 50, and even 60 points in single games, quickly establishing himself as one of the greatest international players of all time. He achieved massive global success, winning Olympic medals for both Yugoslavia and later Croatia.
Drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 1986, Petrović waited until the 1989–1990 season to make his NBA debut, becoming part of the very first wave of European players to break into the league. Following a trade to the New Jersey Nets in 1991, his career truly blossomed. Averaging over 20 points a game, he became a premier NBA star and a beacon of hope for his war-torn countrymen back home. Tragically, in the summer of 1993, just after his best season in the NBA, Dražen died in a devastating traffic collision in Germany. The Mozart of Basketball beautifully chronicles his passion, determination, and enduring spirit, demonstrating how his legacy continues to heavily influence the international game today.
