This study explores the presentation of the political role of the prophets of the Northern Kingdom in 1 and 2 Kings. Primary focus is on prophetic involvement in the legitimacy of the monarchs and their military operations. The author argues that the composition of these narratives is influenced by circles of prophetic disciples interested in elevating the political significance of their prophet-masters. The perspectives produced by their interests are compared with those that appear in the oracles of Hosea, Deuteronomistic speeches, and in ancient Near Eastern sources.
