About the Book:

Saint Jerome was a presbyter, confessor, theologian and historian.

He was the son of Eusebius, born at Stridon, a village near Emona on the border of Dalmatia and Pannonia, then part of northeastern Italy.

He is best known for his monumental translation of the Bible from its original Hebrew and Greek into Latin—a text known as the Vulgate, which served as the standard scriptural text of Western civilization for over a millennium.

Educated in classical rhetoric in Rome, Jerome spent years living as an ascetic hermit in the Syrian desert to master the Hebrew language.
