Set around the city of Nottingham, UK, the thriller toggles between two eras. In 2020, three friends are violently attacked at a forest retreat—and only Kaleigh Creedy escapes. In 2025, Kaleigh has moved on, built a rising brand, and married a celebrity English footballer. The plot explodes when one of the missing friends, Emma, is suddenly discovered alive five years later with a completely conflicting version of what happened that night.

The novel is built using a fast-paced multiple first-person Point-of-View (POV) structure and a dual-timeline layout. The psychological tension rises through alternating chapters told by Kaleigh, her football-star husband Harry, the returned friend Emma, and Charlie—a forensic psychologist attempting to untangle the truth.

Kelly and Kristina Mancaruso are American-born sisters from upstate New York who successfully write and map out their books from opposite sides of the Atlantic. Because Kristina lives in Florida and Kelly lives in Nottingham, England, their thrillers feature a distinct, witty look at cultural differences and the split terminology used between British and American English.
