Surface Mount Technology has had a profound influence on the electronics industry.

The author, Rudolf Strauss, was responsible during a lifetime at Fry Group of Companies for several of the key innovations that contributed to surface mount technology, including the wave soldering principle, the first wave soldering machine, and a number of soldering fluxes and preparations.
