Ultimate X Poker: Learn more about how to play this fascinating game and how its history changed the gaming industry. (Video Poker Heaven) by James H. Haskell
Ultimate X Poker is, without a doubt, the world’s most popular video poker game. In this book, you will learn more about how to play this fascinating game and how its history changed the gaming industry.
Ultimate X is one of the early games that offered multipliers as a bonus feature to attract players. For this game, winning hand multipliers are awarded on the same hand position for the next game on a machine. The max bet per hand increases from 5 credits to 10 credits to activate multipliers. Max bet must be played to activate the Ultimate X multipliers feature.
Below are a few of the most significant events that led up to the invention of Ultimate X.
- In 1979, IGT introduced its first video poker game, Fortune 1 Draw Poker.
- In 1981, IGT introduced the concept of video poker bundling with its release of Game King Multi-game.
- The video poker industry cruised along unchanged for many years until Action Gaming’s Ernie Moody and Triple Play Poker came along and changed the industry.
- In 1997, IGT agreed to give this “multiple hand poker” a shot. Overnight, the Triple Play phenomenon took on a life of its own.
- In 2002, Action Gaming developed a game based on a new patent which used a sixth coin to fund the bonus, which became Super Times Pay Poker
- The same coin formula was used for several games, but then everything went out the window with the next big title: Ultimate X Poker.
- As a result, Ultimate X Poker still is the fastest-growing game ever developed.
I’ve written this book for those video poker fanatics who enjoy exploring this industry's history and behind-the-scenes workings. I do not work in the industry and have no personal knowledge of how it thrives. The information I present in this book was developed from personal experience and research I conducted using publicly available documents and websites.
