While it can be challenging to navigate a season of testing, it is important to remember that it can ultimately strengthen our faith.
Yolonda’s faith was tested when she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2012. It is easy to have faith when life is going smoothly, but it takes true strength and trust in God to maintain that faith when faced with trials and adversity.
It was in her times of testing that her witness to those around her became even more powerful of the grace of God. As the reports were many times bleak, she leaned into prayer and sought the Holy Spirit's guidance. She began journaling her cancer journey, the good days as well as the uncertain days. Journaling allowed her to have a safe space for her thoughts, emotions and feelings about stressful and traumatic events that were taking place in her life. Journaling became a therapeutic intervention for her mental health. Now as she reflects on her many journals, she reflects on what has happened, what didn’t happen, where God has bought her from and what is ahead. She is grateful for every new day and new breath she’s allowed by God’s grace.
