Wuthering Heights

By Emily Brontë | Introduction and Notes by John S. Whitley

🌪️ A TIMELESS GOTHIC MASTERPIECE

"A wild, passionate story of intense and almost demonic love." | A Globally Coveted Book

Revenge and Romance on the Moors

Wuthering Heights is the only novel by Emily Brontë, initially published in 1847 under her pen name Ellis Bell. It remains a Timeless Fiction Novel renowned for its raw passion and atmospheric power. The story centers on the intense connection between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine's father.

After Mr. Earnshaw's death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine's brother, Hindley. Wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, he leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. While the action is chaotic and unremittingly violent, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature.

About the Author

Emily Brontë (1818–1848) was an English novelist and poet who lived a brief but intense life on the Yorkshire moors. A "free spirit" who preferred solitude to society, she created complex, Gothic worlds, including the fantasy saga Gondal with her sister Anne. Though Wuthering Heights was initially misunderstood for its violence, it is now recognized as a premier classic. She died of tuberculosis at age 30, leaving behind a legacy of mystery and literary genius.
